Topics include groups, rings, and
fields; the Sylow theorems; the Galois correspondence; and the standard applications
of the latter (the insolvability of the quintic, the impossibility of certain
geometric constructions using only ruler and compass, and a proof of the
Fundamental Theorem of Algebra).
