Call for Abstracts

We welcome members to present 10-minute platform presentations, posters, and demonstrations of a parasitological nature during our annual meetings. The deadline for abstract submission is May 20th, 2019. Please complete this online form to submit abstracts for papers, posters, and demonstrations.


Food

A continental breakfast will be available near the meeting rooms Friday and Saturday mornings. Friday lunch will be on your own at one of the nearby eateries.


Presentation Awards

Graduate students are eligible to receive either the Herrick Award ($300) for best poster presentation or the LaRue Award ($300) for best oral presentation. Posters and oral presentations by undergraduate students are eligible for the Cable Undergraduate Award ($200). Winners of the three awards outlined above will also be eligible to claim a $200 grant to fund attendance at another meeting for the purpose of presenting their research at that meeting. The best overall student presentation will receive a student travel grant to present their research at the 2016 American Society of Parasitologists annual meeting. There are also monetary awards for other meritorious student papers.


Student Grants Program

The Call for for Proposals for Student Research Grants are announced annually through this website and through an email to current members of AMCOP. Proposals for the 2019 grant program are currently being sought. The deadline for proposal submission is May 23rd, 2019. Silent Auction

Each year AMCOP holds a silent auction of parasitological (and other) materials. Please bring the items you wish to donate with you to the meeting.

Travel Details

Minnesota State University Mankato is located 90 miles west of Rochester, MN, and 80 miles south of Minneapolis/St Paul, MN. The Julia Sears Residence Community is located at on the west end of campus on West Road and is across the road for Centennial Student Union.

Parking

AMCOP and Minnesota State University Mankato invite you to attend the 71st Annual Midwestern Conference of Parasitologists that is tentatively planned for on June 6-8, 2019. Housing and meetings are planned to be on the campus of Minnesota State University Mankato in Mankato, MN.


Dr. Robert Sorensen is the Program Officer for this meeting, which will start with a reception from 6–9pm on Thursday evening. Student papers, the AMCOP Symposium, and the posters will be presented on Friday followed by the banquet that evening. Additional papers may be given on Saturday morning based on the number of abstracts submitted. The annual business meeting and awards presentation will also occur on Saturday following the scheduled talks and the conference should conclude around noon. Dr. Vasyl Tkach, of the University of North Dakota, is the Presiding Officer for this year's meeting.


Registration Details

Please register for AMCOP-71 by completing this online form. Deadline for pre-registration is Thursday, May 23rd, 2019. Dormitory check-in will be at the main desk in the lobby of Julia Sears Residence Hall.

Thursday Evening Social

The Thursday evening reception will be held from 6-9pm at Bradley's on Stadium (1600 Warren St.), located near campus. Appetizers will be available throughout the evening. Bradley's serves pub food, salads, and pizzas. There are also several other restaurants nearby. The location is within easy walking distance to the dormitory.  


Friday and Saturday Sessions

The Friday morning session will begin with student oral presentations in completitions for the LaRue and Cable awards in room 112 if the Clinical Science Building. After lunch, there may be additional competition talks followed by a symposium, featuring talks by Dr. Jeff Bell (University of North Dakota) and Dr. Jillian Detwiler (University of Manitoba). The topic for this symposium is Parasite-Host Ecology. The afternoon will conlcude with posters/demonstrations, including student posters in competition for the Herrick Award.

The Saturday morning session will feature contributed papers and the annual business meeting. We anticipate closing the meeting around noon.


Banquet

The banquet will be held on Friday evening in the Heritage Room in the Centennial Student Union. A social hour will begin at 5:30 with dinner following at 6:00. Banquet tickets must be purchased with the registration form.


Keynote Address

The Keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Bobbi Pritt MD, a Professor and Director of the Clinical Parasitology Laboratory at Mayo Clinic.
